Public Notice-Drone Electric Asset Inspections

Columbus Utilities Public Notice - Drone Electric Asset Inspections

Starting August 18th and over the next 2-3 months, Columbus Utilities will be conducting Aerial Utility Asset Inspections throughout the Columbus Utilities service territory. These inspections will be carried out by authorized drone operators.

The drones will capture high-resolution images of electric poles, components, and conductor conditions. Flights will occur within approximately 30 feet of electric infrastructure and along electric corridors from asset to asset.

For your safety, please do not approach inspection teams while drones are in flight. Our operators will be happy to answer any questions once the aircraft has safely landed.

Is Solar the Right Choice?

Some important basic questions to consider before you begin are:

  • How much of my annual energy use do I want to offset?
  • Should I go with a ground or roof mounted system?
  • Do I want a solar electric or solar thermal (hot water) system?
  • Will my solar system receive shading during select parts of the day or at certain times of the year?
  • What solar installation companies work in our area?
