The Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) is managed through the Department of Public Works although it is a self-sustaining City-owned utility that operates under the regulations of the State of Wisconsin, Department of Natural Resources.
Department employees are assigned to the WWTP with the make-up being that of one "A" Licensed Operator In-Charge and the remainder are "B" Licensed Operators. This staff of highly trained professionals is responsible for all facets of the Wastewater Treatment Utility including the collection, treatment, and plant operations systems of the system.
Responsibilities
The City of Columbus Wastewater Utility is responsible for sewer mains and the direct connections of laterals from structures throughout the city. The "direct connection' is defined as the coupling resulting in the connection of a privately owned sewer lateral to the city sewer main.
