Crews will be out flushing hydrants

Columbus Utilities crews are starting their routine yearly flushing program where they are required to flush hydrants throughout the city per the DNR. Where the crews will be flushing there will be water running down the gutter and flowing into the streets. Customers may see some rusty looking water. If this is the case, please remove the screens on your faucets and let the water run until clear. If you have any questions, please call Columbus Utilities at 920-623-5912. Thank you for your cooperation.

Wastewater Department

The Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) is managed through the Department of Public Works although it is a self-sustaining City-owned utility that operates under the regulations of the State of Wisconsin, Department of Natural Resources.

Department employees are assigned to the WWTP with the make-up being that of one "A" Licensed Operator In-Charge and the remainder are "B" Licensed Operators. This staff of highly trained professionals is responsible for all facets of the Wastewater Treatment Utility including the collection, treatment, and plant operations systems of the system.

Responsibilities

The City of Columbus Wastewater Utility is responsible for sewer mains and the direct connections of laterals from structures throughout the city. The "direct connection' is defined as the coupling resulting in the connection of a privately owned sewer lateral to the city sewer main. Sewer lateral maintenance and repair is the responsibility of the property owner.
